This my blog, again. I forget how many times I’ve done this but I seem to struggle to keep up with the demands of the Internet. First we’re blogging, then we’re tweeting, then we’re posting status updates for all-and-sundry and then we have people like Posterous and Tumblr confusing me. I like writing long articles so I’m going to stick to what I know and enjoy. This may mean I rarely post anything but I’ll try to make it informative.

I’m a Brit (Yorkshireman really!) that now lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada with my wife, two kids and dog. I’ve been around computers since I was 10 and I self-confessed lover of gadgets and technology. Fortunately, I get paid to do my hobby and would describe myself as a “Technology Strategist”. I started programming in BASIC on the ZX-81 at the age of 10 and migrated to the Spectrum and Z80 machine code at the age of 14. I finished my first machine-code game at 14, did some contract programming at 17 and finally started work at 19 in 1989 for Pell Frischmann Consultants Ltd — an international civil engineering company based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I have a tendency to get bored quickly which nearly cost me my job but my talents as a computer geek outweighed my disinterest in civil engineering and my perceptive bosses gave me an opportunity to move into desktop PC support within four months of starting work.

I spent the next 7 years working for Pell’s moving up to IT Manager at 22, managing three staff and found my niche. I started working as a contractor in 1996 and have remained a freelance consultant ever since. It was supposed to be a five year plan to “see the world” and gain some wider experience of business but it has consumed my life. I’ve been fortunate to work with some fantastic people along the way and compiled an impressive list of the best IT people.

I met my wife in 2004 and we moved to Vancouver a year later — onwards and upwards.
